my CRITIQUE (photo assign.)

RICHARD AVEDONrichard avedon. American 'Harper Bazaar'. 1954

a few facts:

Richard Avedon was born in 1923 in New York City and grew up to become a lover for fashion photography. He began photography by working for Merchant Marines, later he started working at Vogue and Life producing very fine pieces of art. Unlike other photographers, he chose to have his models show full "emotion, smiling, laughing, and, many times, in action."
Describe:
In this image, I see the fabulous life of rich people. The model that he uses Sunny Harnett, is a beautiful, skinny women who looks real elegant. In the background I see blurriness that keeps me from looking at it. The light and the women are what STAND OUT.
Analyze:
The layout works very well with the ideas of the photographer. The look of a rich person goes great at the casino because usually the people who have money gamble to get more. To make the photo more interesting to me, I liked how Avedon took a picture with the huge light because it stands out a lot. The light and balance is used very well. Nothing is taking away of another feature in this photograph. This photo has many emotional impacts, it makes you feel glamorous, envious, and seductive.
Interpret:
I think the artist used this type of background, emotion, and layout to make his viewers feel glamourous and rich. It sort of makes you want to be the model. I think Avedon was trying to either have the lady seduce the casino worker so that he can give her more than what she has won or wanted to show the everday life of a rich person having fun.
Judge:
The work did turn out successful, I picked this piece of art because it stood out very well and you could just feel the emotions used. Everytime I look at this photo I interpret a diff. story which keeps the photo interesting. I like how Avedon put this piece together so I would not change much. The only thing I think should be diff. is for the background of the other rich people to stand out because I would like to see what they are wearing or how their attitude looks.

ADREANA'S cd album

project numba 2:
create a cd album

my model- ADREANA! I wanted to use my cousin as my model because she is very gorgeous & would look good on a CD cover. She was very easy to work with. the process- My first idea after hearing about this project, I knew that I wanted to use a notebook, iPOD, pencil, and an outdoors background. The outdoors background came out w o n d e r f u l, so that was awesome. Working together, we had many ideas such as: taking pictures with a piano, using big headphones, and microphone but it all narrowed down to three that I thought looked really good. developing- developing was fine. Same ol' process. printing- I was pretty exicted about the printing. I think it's the most exciting part b/c you get to watch your pictures appear. results- I am happy with my results. I added a title, the artists name, titles of the songs, and copyrighted it just for fun. To me, it actually looks like a cd album so I am truly happy with the results.

BIANCA'S portrait :]

project numba 1:
create a portrait
STRIKE A POSE!- This is my first shot, it wasn't the best but I TRIED! When I found out that we had to shoot a portrait, the poses that came to mind were poses that a regular photographer would ask of. My model was extremely cooperative so she did as I asked. As you can see, she turned out b e a u t i f u l! Being the first group to shoot and not being able get even more ideas from other groups wasn't easy. If I could have done anything better to make this shot a better picture, I would have used a white background because the picture looks too dark. Developing- the first time for me developing film was sorta scarey. There are A LOT of steps so I was hoping I wouldn't make a mistake. The film strip came out fine though. I notice that I should concentrate what is in the background because in my film strip you could see the fan & chairs. oops. Printing- printing I was also nervous about. It was something new for me and I just wanted to get it right. Ms. Miles said I had it right on the first try so that was a good thing. The results- I wasn't that happy with the results. I now know what I can do to make it better so I am excited for the next try!
