a few facts:
Richard Avedon was born in 1923 in New York City and grew up to become a lover for fashion photography. He began photography by working for Merchant Marines, later he started working at Vogue and Life producing very fine pieces of art. Unlike other photographers, he chose to have his models show full "emotion, smiling, laughing, and, many times, in action."
Describe:
In this image, I see the fabulous life of rich people. The model that he uses Sunny Harnett, is a beautiful, skinny women who looks real elegant. In the background I see blurriness that keeps me from looking at it. The light and the women are what STAND OUT.
Analyze:
The layout works very well with the ideas of the photographer. The look of a rich person goes great at the casino because usually the people who have money gamble to get more. To make the photo more interesting to me, I liked how Avedon took a picture with the huge light because it stands out a lot. The light and balance is used very well. Nothing is taking away of another feature in this photograph. This photo has many emotional impacts, it makes you feel glamorous, envious, and seductive.
Interpret:
I think the artist used this type of background, emotion, and layout to make his viewers feel glamourous and rich. It sort of makes you want to be the model. I think Avedon was trying to either have the lady seduce the casino worker so that he can give her more than what she has won or wanted to show the everday life of a rich person having fun.
Judge:
The work did turn out successful, I picked this piece of art because it stood out very well and you could just feel the emotions used. Everytime I look at this photo I interpret a diff. story which keeps the photo interesting. I like how Avedon put this piece together so I would not change much. The only thing I think should be diff. is for the background of the other rich people to stand out because I would like to see what they are wearing or how their attitude looks.
